Mummys Little Angel

Mummys Little Angel

An eerie but true tale detailing a warped kind of love.....................

Mummy's Little Angel

Her cherub face was etched in pain, a single tear slid down her cheek

Mummy’s angel was fading away; her little body so frail and weak

The doctors and nurses tried to heal her; to make her big and strong

But mummy knew her child was dying & that the end would not be long

Though the test results were all inconclusive and the illness still undefined

Mummy kept thanking the hospital staff for being so considerate & kind

She watched her daughters’ weight plummet until she was mere skin & bone

She tried to get her to eat some food but each mouthful just made her moan

When all hope seemed lost & it seemed inevitable that death was very near

One doctor decided to investigate more and soon things became more clear

Mummy’s angel was sipping homemade soup when the detective came

He took the spoon from mummy’s hand & so ignited an accusers flame

The accuser stood in the corner, a doctor with a suspicion that she had shared

That a mother was killing her daughter, so she could show how much she cared

Mummy’s angel was sleeping when the policemen took her only parent away

She didn't know what mummy had done or the price she'd been willing to pay

Mummy’s little angel grew stronger and emerged healthy from her living hell

And now mummy is protesting her innocence from her lonely prison cell ……

Oh my, how terrible - how could such a thing happen! But it does, it does. As Mark says below, this kind of happening occurs. It's a seemingly warped mind, a syndrome that focuses not specifically on the sufferer near dying or dead but on the person causing the terror.

Your poem is rich in graphics, awful tho the circumstances are.

You took a reader's expectation and turned it a bit sideways. Medicine is an art and the mind is truly uncharted territory.

A very disturbing piece, but we see all too common in our society. I wasn't expecting it to end the way it did. Very nicely done.

Munchhausen-by-proxy is a very bizarre disorder. You have captured its insidious nature quite fetchingly in this short piece. I commend you.
