Wall

Wall

A Poem by Riv

The rain falls steady.
It's easy to hide the truth,
when you're crying to yourself.
The sky is dampened,
as is your own thoughts.

Yet where is the line drawn.
Where is the decision you make,
making you different from the rest.
Turn your back,
build a wall.

Get lost in your music.
Sound of your mind that eases,
as if it were everything.
Write out your heart,
until you realize.

Every step you take,
you wonder if it's real.
Every mistake you make,
you wonder if it's true.
That everyone can make mistakes,
that big.

Walls are a double-edged sword. They may protect by keeping things away but they can also stunt emotional growth by holding the self in. I realize that erecting walls is more a defense mechanism than a conscious plan but one must consider the risk of becoming closed minded to GOOD things on the outside of the barriers. Walls and masks are common themes in writing, but your take on it is very original and promising. take care...dan

everybody at one time or another has built a wall around themselves, some to keep themselves from venturing out before they are truly ready to face the outside world again or to protect themselves while they are healing. Some make the mistake of making the wall impenetrable, either in or out and then they have a real problem
