I was once a Rat

I was once a rat
Running among the flowers
Taking only what I needed
Seeking nothing else

I was once a mouse
Eating all the wheat
Causing the farmers trouble
Hunted by cats

I was once a cat
Hunting the mice
Making a living
All on my own

I was once a dog
Obeying my masters orders
Getting in trouble
Then put to sleep

I was once a bird
Wild and free
But they took me away
And threw me away

I was once a field
Growing tall and strong
Until you cut me down
To earn money

I was once a forest
A home for animals
Until you cut me down
And built your home

I was once a lake
Filled with fish
Until you poisoned me
Now all is dead

I was once human
Sucking the lake dry
Cutting down the forests
Now look where I am

I was only once, a kind and gentle rat

A poem I wrote a few years back, but it was one of my favorites. It won a class competition and was gonna be entered into a small book to be published I never payed the fee in time, but I decided to reupload for you guys to see ^w^

I was once a snake or so my ex-wife made me out to be in court. I told the judge that I was not in fact a snake at all but, I was a whoremonger and that was why my soon to be ex-wife and I had gotten along for so many years together and now she was divorcing me because I was reforming.

The selfish, free, kind, and simply cannibalistic

We all seem to be just a bunch of rats

I don't view rats as a negative sort of thing. Since I used to have two as pets ^W^, so in this poem I placed them as the base of purity maybe something just simply moving about their day and trying to live their lives.
