"Wish we could turn back time, to the good ole days. When our momma's sang us to sleep, but now we're stressed out." Twenty one pilots - stressed out the song that inspired this poem

The world can't wait to dump all over 'fresh meat' if you will. Only when we have rushed to grow up do we see the avalanche of crap heading to intercept us and we brake like crazy and even try to reverse (the yearning for simpler times). Reversing grinds the gears and fooks us up and guess what...? We STILL get hit with that avalanche of crap anyway. lol
Great piece Abby.
I've noticed that as I age I have the opposite happening. I was so shy and afraid as a teenager and now as an adult I could care less of what people think of me, because this is how I am and I don't plan on changing anytime soon. I only care about those who care about me. A great poem though for people going through this issue so they know their not alone, no one deserves to feel like that. Do what you think is best for you, not them :) A great poem :)
I can relate to this, i experienced a period in my teens of not going out and no one understood, it makes them fear you because they see their way as the only way, it can be stressful to be alone but time takes over and life changes, excellent writing Limno of these experiences, it tells much of the difference of people, bravo :)
The learning of real life.
"When I was a kid I wanted to be an adult
It was this thought of being able to do anything -
Not having someone tell you what to do
To have this thing that would get you what you wanted"
When we are kids. We want to be a adult. When we are kids. We want to be kids again. Would be nice to have middle ground. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Limno, Some pros and cons about aging: Pro____You eventually quit caring what other people think...to a certain degree. I mean you want to be known as someone respectful AND respectable. But you don't have to wear your hair a certain way, you dress how you want, in short you're comfortable in your own skin. Cons_____While you're busy wanting to grow up I'd love to be 18 again, knowing what I know now. My advice? Just be the best person you can right now, tomorrow gets here soon enough, then you start wondering where all the years went. Like the saying goes: Youth is wasted on the young. take care...dan
Hey Limno this is an awesome write!
"When I was a kid I wanted to be an adult
It was this thought of being able to do anything -
Not having someone tell you what to do
To have this thing that would get you what you wanted"
That stanza is so relatable as I remember that exact feeling. The feeling
of freedom worry free life where all we had to do was worry about having
fun and experiencing life. Those were the good ole days :)
so very true Limno, as we grow up and reality hits.. how we sometimes wish we could go back to the easy time of being tucked in and lulled to sleep!
But i am learning that life is what you make it, I'm learning to shut our the negative voices and only listen to the positive ones!!
Great write! :)
Limno: I love the poem, and will check out the song. The poem is so relateable to me, and probably to many people. In my case, I worry too much, not what people think, but that I may hurt someone's feelings. As I've grown older, society's dogma, of do this or that, "don't be yourself" has become, a weak thought in my mind. My mother never had time to sing to me, but wouldn't that be wonderful; but I certainly had to leave home, like you expressed so very well; got married at 17; looking for that freedom you speak of, only to see, life if tough. Your poem gave beautiful imagery, taking me on a journey, of my memories, reminding myself, of beautiful times: this is our life, live it to the fullest; Love the title, & those childhood years of bliss still are within me; that's something that can never be taken away. Just beautiful Limno; sorry if I blabbed about me; you're so talented. Thank you so much. Dale
