The Wild Rose

The Wild Rose

A Poem by Riv

She was just as beautiful
As a rose in the gardens
Red and clear
Yet thorns ran deep

The day he came
Was the day she fell
Once again,
into his arms

The next day bright,
he gifted with a flower
The flower she grew as
A red rose,
red and clear.

The third day,
he ran by the river.
She gazed into his eyes,
and went to look into her reflection.
She didn't see him.

The blow was quick,
and the death was not.
Slipped into the river,
with a single rose.
Between,
her teeth.

Limno, Wow what a stunning write! From word 1 to the richly appointed ending this piece bursts with a raw intensity that seems to sizzle toward the conclusion. I'm actually having trouble finding the right words to do this piece justice so I'll just go with GREAT! This goes into my library favorites now. Thank you for that. take care...dan

I thought something was familiar! And then I remembered the song by Nick Cave Where the Wild Roses Grow. This is just as exquisite and as haunting as the song and legend.

I enjoyed the story and the perfect ending.
"The blow was quick,
and the death was not.
Slipped into the river,
with a single rose.
Between,
her teeth."
The ending create good place and vision. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Very gripping with a frightfully disturbing end, scary legend but you write it well, so that the audience never suspects the end, well done!

Everything is happening so fast here...(which is good because it kept me reading none- stop) Good choice of words enjabments. From the very first stanza there is always something in motion, something active that is occuring until the very last line. Great job...I'm glad I read this :)

I love it
I feel such a heavy body of spiritual content here
A very beautiful walk through love and letting go
In peace

Absolutely stunning
you got some talent here

Well, we all know something similar has happened unfortunately. Limno, glad you gave the background; thought it was perfect. It flowed so beautiful - slamming imagery and then you blew me far away, I don't to where. Vivid. Great work. Dale

hello Limno, an intriguing poem and story, the ending did come as a surprise, I was drifting along a lovely stream of passion as the love unfolded and 'WHAM'!!! a psycho lover sends her to a watery grave, very well written, bravo :)

It's so interesting how beautiful things go together well with tragic tales. Here you have told us a story through this short poem, which I think is awesome! It flew through my imagination so easily I could picture it in my mind. That within itself, is powerful.
A great poem :)

Overlooking some nits in this, (e.g. red and clear??) I found it to be a good thriller with a superb twist.
Nice one Limno
