Black

Black

A Poem by Riv

You can't stand the sight of it
The color that you represent
Every waking moment in spite of it
You have to react in ten fold

It's easy to keep it down
It's easy to maybe think about it
But when you're the color black
I guess, it speaks for itself

It's easy to check. I compare my fingers to the color of the HP keyboard and it's not even close.
And I read how Rihanna and Sammy Sosa bleached themselves to appear.........................Hell, I
don't know what there trying to appear as, whether less dark or more light? Don't get me wrong.
Poems absolve the poet from the worship of it's pathology. And writing one is like being insane
where whatever is said can't be wrapped around your head as belief. And I, a student of poetic
license, strongly believe in the right to say what you like. But black, the color, the representation,
the story, the history, how it acts, how it makes you act (or write) is never factually wrong.
It is as true as anything else on this earth is, true here meaning that which is conformable to
any essential reality.

I don't know if this is a poem of hatred or one of overcoming. But then again, i'm not 18 any more.

The color black be danger, dead-end and anger. I like how you led to the very good ending. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I always thought black was elegant and sophisticated. It goes with everything.

LimnoH, A lot of people feel like the color black at times (I'm bipolar w/anxiety disorder and OCD features) including me. I've been suicidal, made two legit attempts, been in more psych wards than I can even remember...so I'm really not the one to say any magic words to help you to view yourself in pastels, for instance. I can just say embrace yourself and black, make it work FOR YOU instead of against. And keep searching for the brightly colored palette, one day it may find you. take care...dan

It surely is a shame to be the color black! To be represented as gloomy and colorless. It surely doesn't help with one's self-esteem either.
