Kings and Queens

Kings and Queens

A Poem by Riv

We told stories of kings and queens, as if we had an eternity to tell them.
We told stories of kings and queens, until our vocal chords were numb.

All of us were never quiet awake,
we walked with sultry tones into the unknown.
No matter how many people held us under,
it was like another game to be played.
The bliss of not understanding,
of being cared for.
Suddenly the ground was pulled up,
from underneath us.
No direction to take,
only our mere thoughts at our side.
Which path were we supposed to take,
how do you breath again?
Oh how we wish to gain the crown again,
we would never forsake it again.
We would kindle the flame kindly,
protect is fiercely.
Oh how we wished,
but it is simply that,
a wish.
We dreamt of knights on white horses, we dreamt of protecting princesses.
But now, we're left stitching up our circuit boards.

Riv
How we dreamt of the unknown and now it all just seems to be a mystery not to be messed with.

LimnoH, I love the way you speak of royalty embodied in your piece's main thrust, then throw it into the future with the digital "circuit boards." It kind of ties the whole thing together with an abstract bow. When the 'narrator' speaks of ...gain the crown again...it seems like a wish to gain control of a life that is spiraling out of control, a reckless path on which it runs. I like your use of imagery and especially like the way you tie the time of royalty to the digital reality in which we now sink, or swim. A very polished write, thumbs up. take care...dan
