Brad and Brendan's Sudden Turn of EventsA Story by LilyoftheweshtNaomi and Comhairle feel safe in the knowledge that they have pulled off the perfect double date. However, Brad and Brendan might just have another idea.
It began just like all great love stories begin: in the bathrooms of Apache Pizza on Henry Street.
"So, I reckon Brendan might actually be into boys, looks like I'm getting lucky here, huh?" Comhairle smirked triumphantly as he took a last sip of Coke. Seven o'clock on Wednesday evening. Naomi and Comhairle had spent most of the day hanging out with Brad and Brendan, their respective crushes. It was the perfect day for a romantic double act; bright sunshine, town fairly quiet. Naomi looked uncertain. "I don't think Brad likes me. There's still a chance. Should I tell him how I feel?" "Tell you what." Comhairle looked her in the eye, before launching into an incomprehensible spiel in his culchie-esque drawl. "If you tell him about your feelings for him, I'll tell Brendan I'm trans. Let's take the leap. Deal? Besides, Brad has to like you and Brendan has to like me. Remember the daisy game in the park yesterday?" "We'll see when they come back. What is taking them so long anyway?" Little did Naomi and Comhairle know that Brad and Brendan were well occupied away from them. Washing his hands, Brad looked in the mirror and saw the reflection of his counterpart. There was something about the guy. Maybe it was his soft dark hair or his cute, effeminate laugh. Brad couldn't put his finger on it but something drew him into Brendan. "Um, are you alright there?" Brad was jolted back into reality by the sound of Brendan's voice. The sweet, serene sound of his voice, as Comhairle had reportedly called it. "No, I'm not alright." "What?" "It's hard to explain, but, but..." It was then or never. Brad pressed Brendan against the wall and shifted him. The whole deal with warm breath and rolling tongues that, of course, the author of this particular fic knows sweet feck all about and isn't necessarily going to be able to write about it accurately. After sixty seconds of intimacy, the two boys were alerted to the time that had passed by Gavin From Apache bursting through the main door to the bathrooms, thankfully only entering the staff room next door. "Uh, Brad...I think we'd better get going." Resisting the urge to grab Brendan's hand, Brad led his newfound crush out towards the tables where Naomi and Comhairle waited. S**t, he thought. I need to get out of here fast. "Guys, ah, I'm being collected around the corner, like, now, okay, hey Brendan do you want a lift? Yeah, he does, okay I need to run, BYE!" Brad sprinted out and Brendan, simply shrugging a goodbye, went after him. As the remaining two looked at each other in bewilderment, Gavin From Apache snickered behind the counter. "I knew those two were shifting", he muttered under his breath. "Brad, wait, where are we going?" "Anywhere. Somewhere away." At this stage, Brad and Brendan were walking across the river. Brad grabbed Brendan's arm and ran, dragging him behind the monument by the Strand. The sun was beginning to set, and an idyllic setting emerged over the Shannon. "Why did you do that?" Brendan looked traumatised. Brad knew he enjoyed it though. He was clearly into Comhairle at first so they both knew something about Brendan that Brendan himself didn't know. Brad lay back against the marble slab and took a few seconds, before answering. "Because I saw something in you, Brendan." It was at that point in time that the same lightbulb switched on in Brendan's mind. That "s**t I'm gay" moment when you break free from what you assumed all along. "I have nothing to lose then." Brendan leaned across and kissed Brad on the lips, in a gentle but romantic sort of way. He clasped Brad's hand and stroked the top of it. "Be my bae." "Always." Brad and Brendan must have stayed in that spot for an hour or so. At one stage, Brendan took a stone and scratched "B+B" on the pavement, to make their mark. Departing from each others arms nearly tore them apart. "So, I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" Brendan climbed up. Brad smiled. "You'll see me tomorrow and then the day after and every day possible. Forever and always." End of chapter one. © 2015 Lilyofthewesht |
