A Nightmare You Can't Wake Up From

A Nightmare You Can't Wake Up From

A Poem by laughinglullaby

My lights are fading,
My vision blurs.
I don't want to think clearly
An I refuse to learn.
The hope I've been grasping
Is nothing but a lie
My world won't stop spinning
I can't spread my wings and fly.
I don't want to grow up
Please leave me in this dream.
I don't want your advice.
Its not as easy as it seems.
I've lost myself
And I don't want her back
Let me stay in my ignorance.
I love what I lack.
Let me be who I am
And just forget the rest
I don't care who you are
And I don't want your best
I don't want to live
I don't want to die
I caught up in my apathy
And I don't question why
I'm losing my heart
I'm losing my mind.
But your just asking how I'm doing
"I'm just fine"

I really like the strong, edgy voice that this poem has. So few words, so much substance too. The ending is stellar. It keeps ringing through my head over and over again. Fantastic piece.

My God. Oh my God. This is brilliant, as far as literature goes, but as far as personal life goes, I am so sorry. There's nothing harder than fighting yourself, your apathy, your own weakness. Beautiful writing. Don't ever give up.
