Myanmar's Cultural DancesA Story by Lily Siti MultatulianaAsean Ladies Circle, ALC, Kuala Lumpur is a non- profit organization which consists of ladies from the Asean region who are residing in Malaysia. They are mostly attached to the Asean Embassies. This organization was established to promote mutual understanding, cooperation and solidarity among women of the Asean community in Kuala Lumpur and in Malaysia through cultural and social exchanges. And It does the fund-raising activities and charity work for numerous causes. The Patron of this organization is the wife of the minister of foreign affair Malaysia and the wife of the Ambasador of Asean countries. This organization have monthly affairs hosted alternatively by the Asean groups of Malaysia, Philipines, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand etc.They organize and co-ordinate a number of ativities such as bowling, tennis, ballroom dancing, and other creative activities. In February 2008 the activities are held in Hotel Impiana Kuala Lumpur and this time the host of the activities was the ladies from Myanmar. There were attended by the wife of foreign minister Malaysia, Datin Seri Sharifah Aziah Syed Zainal Abidin; the ambassador of Camboja for Malaysia H.R.H Norodom Arusnrasmy, she is the sister’s King of Camboja; and the wives of the asean ambassadors. The Ambassador’s wife of Myanmar as a Patron of ALC-Myanmar, Mdm. Daw Htwe Htwe Mya gave a wellcoming remarks . Then the cultural performance was played such as “HnitParThwar” the traditional dancing from Myanmar which is like the Balinese dance although the Balinese one is more dynamic. Then The Chinlone performance was on stage, It is a combination of sport and traditional dance from Myanmar. The two girls who makes solo and duet performances styles with an acrobatic freestyle kicking a woven ball of rattan. Then the “Bamboo Dance” was played by boys and girls, this dance is similar with the traditional dance from Maluku Indonesia. After lunch all the attendance were dancing “Poco Poco” together. The dancing is originally from Minahasa Indonesia. It is popular dancing in Indonesia and Asean as well. In the lunch time we had the traditional food from Myanmar, “Myanmar Briyani” is a mix rice with chicken and the taste is spicy. Balachaungyaw is the raw manggo cooked like curry the taste of this food is sour, salt, and hot. Tuekayar is a food made from white sticky rice mix with Durian fruit and coconut milk.
