Goodbyes.

I never realized how much he meant to me until he walked away for the last time.

I think the hardest part of saying goodbye is the fear of knowing that someone you care about will forget about you. As you go your separate ways, both departing to different reaches of life, it can be terrifying knowing that you are no longer a part of someones life, or them no longer a part of yours. As you turn and walk away from one of your greatest friends, will they disregard every beautiful memory you shared together? Or will it linger in their mind as they head off without you? Will they remember your face as it was, or will it all become a blur? Will they forget the sound of your voice, or will it ring in their ears, haunting them? The scariest part of saying goodbye isn't just knowing you won't see that person again, it's the terrifying idea that you will no longer matter to them.
