Dedicated to the friend who helped me to become who I am today...

You smiled when I wanted to frown

You were yellow when when I was brown

You had sunshine while I had rain

You were happy when I dwelt with pain.

 

I didn't understand when you smiled at me.

 

I only had excuses, never hope.

You were my ray of sunshine when I wanted to mope.

You spoke to me when I felt alone,

An angel sent from heaven with a friendly tone.

 

I still wondered why you smiled at me.

 

Just a few words, spoken the right way,

Were enough to make my day.

I was still nervous and shy,

But you helped me fly.

 

I now know why you would smile at me.

 

You were my ray of sunshine on those cloudy days,

And you've never ceased to amaze.

Now my life has meaning, thanks to you,

Becuase of you I flew.

 

I am so glad you would smile at me.

 

Now those dreary days are gone and past,

Even though it seemed like they would always last.

This is my thanks to you for helping me get through,

And becuase of you, I grew.

 

I hope now that I can help someone like you helped me.

 

Thank you once again.

I wrote this for a friend who did all of these things. I owe my life to this person, I owe everything I am and became to her. If you have experienced depression and darkness of a spiritual kind you know how I felt.
