The RhythmA Poem by Lillian Kirsch"A poem about a kiss"The breath leaves my body and light, as if a spear, pierces my soul I’m unsure of where to put my hands, grasping for some kind of footfall I don’t know what I’m doing, but I have the feeling I’m getting it right It’s strange, isn’t it? You just fall into the rhythm. I didn’t know the song, or the melody beneath it, or how to utter the right words or hum the right notes But of course, you fall into the groove of the music, your lips just two notes holding their breath I’ve spent lifetimes of forevers stumbling over my feet, stepping on toes My arms, awkward sticks at my side, my tongue, a hermit inside the mouth I can feel you knocking, but I’m unsure if I’m supposed to let people in So I let you knock, wondering if the door will fall down But once you’ve company, you can hardly get enough © 2023 Lillian Kirsch |
