Bury it Deep

Bury it Deep

A Poem by Lillian Kirsch
"

"A poem on money and secrets"

"

Bury it deep

These secrets we keep

This game that wanes and weeps

Shovel the dirt

Kill this fertile Earth

Eat pennies and dimes for your worth

We’re all rich around here

Playing gunshots by ear

We rip

And we eat

And we tear

Welcome to the graveyard

Where our transactions stand dim

And we hold all the cards

Waxed and waned on whim

Shake hands

Make it work

We’re the kings of your money and quirks

We know your favorite song

Everything you’ve done wrong

We judge by vows and violence

Dollar signs in our eyes

Just lies in disguise

Hiding behind suits and ties

And lies

We’ll cut your throat

We’ll groan and we’ll gloat

While everyone else goes to vote

Drop your hearts at the ballot

And give us your wallet

Shove our lies right down your gullet

You’re not a hero

And we’re not the villain

So load up your bows and arrows

Call it what you want

But it’s just business

And we’ve got plenty of secrets to haunt

So drown out your sorrow

At the bottom of that bottle

And we’ll sell you on discount a hero

He’s got white flashy teeth

And looks just like you

He’s not what

He’s not why

He’s who

We’ll pin it on him

Throw him up on the cross

Pay him for our sins

And throw our wrongs right to the boss

We’ll sell you a martyr

And take all your dollars

Until America’s just a state of pallor

Its sickly

Its tired

Its leaned on the wire

All our secrets are bound to expire

But we’ll sell you our lies

And you’ll eat em right up

Because we’re your heroes and saints in disguise

So welcome to our world

Where lies sell quick

And hearts don’t stick

You wanna make it?

Be like us

Leave your morals out to rust

Rule the world with the lie’s right hammer

Cause money ain’t all glamor

This is my first attempt at using a lot of rhymes in my poetry, I figured it would be fun trying to play with my words

Welcome to the world of corporate America where everything is for sale even one's soul. Ethics and virtue who needs them? Even a holy man has his price just check out those pastors rocking their thousand dollar suits and jet planes. Everything has a price even our politicians who are more than happy to pass tax cuts for the rich and do nothing for the poor. Except sell them the same song and dance, blaming people of color or LGBTQ for their problems. Corporations won't stop until they own everything in this country, and even then it won't be enough. A strong poem with a lot of truth to it.

Morals and Politicians....
what a paradox...
Money rules....those who have it do whatever they want, and those who don't end up doing whatever those who have the money and power want.
It's a cruel world these days.
Yes, money ain't all glamor...but still helps the haves rule the have nots.
and preferably....I'll just be content with being a have not...and by the way...the rhyme worked.

I'm glad the rhyme worked! And I very much agree with you on that, it's a cruel world out there, but.. read more

Too many liars dear Lilian.
I really like the way this flows, it has an almost showman like presentation that sings throughout the entire piece. Like you're being sold something, and you're almost convinced of it. It's a very interesting piece that really shows how corruption tends to work.
