Broken Little Doll

Broken Little Doll

A Poem by Lilith Frost
"

a poem about me via a doll I once had...

"
I'm your broken little doll,
the one you locked away.
I don't think you cried at all
when you closed the lid that day.
My tears fell,
I wept and wept
for far to many days.

I have a crack from my forehead
down past my marble eye,
from when you dropped me in the rain
While staring at the sky.
I remember the raindrops masked your tears
as you carried me home to show mom.
When she told you she'd buy a new doll
you said no, cause that would be wrong.
You held me in your room that night
Told me you loved me and it'd all be fine.
While you slept I stared at the mirror,
and decided you were right.

My littlest finger is missing
Broken when I fell down the stairs.
Your mommy saved it in a box
of things that need repairs.
Again you said it would be okay -
that four is better than none
You smiled and kissed my cracked little face,
and twisted my hair in a bun.

I have a hole in my right leg,
from the boy that took me on the playground.
He threw me in a little bag,
and tossed me off the merry-go-round.
You cried so much that day,
I thought you'd never stop.
You said you'd make that dumb boy pay,
and so you hit him really hard
with a great big rock.

My dress is tattered and torn with age,
my left shoe has no laces.
I never thought I'd be locked in a cage
with a dozen other faces.
The hutch was tall and made of glass,
with shelves of cherry oak.
The other dolls looked full of class
while all i looked was broke.

My heart is broken, not just my face,
and I have no strength within.
I'm stuck in such a hollow place
that I never should have been.
You told me once that you loved me
and that I'd always be your friend,
but here I sit in this old box
another storaged has-been.

I'm your broken little doll
that you locked away without care
I don't know how to deal at all,
every day without you there.
I'm your broken little doll,
but I'll always love you, after all.

I enjoyed the tinge of macabre in such a sweet/sad story. Usually when concerned with the dark side of life, there isn't exactly a way around for a happy ending. Only in some cases, but those are small, and normally not real. It's just not the way things happen often.

I enjoyed reading this, and am glad that you opted for rhythmical prose. I can understand the little girl being sad. I can understand the doll's hurt as well. That is the reaction of a reader who has just read a good story.

I really enjoyed this. It was more than just the imagery that you created which was excellent - it was the sadness it stirred for many "lost or forgotten things." What i got from it was sometimes the things we love the hardest, we wear out the most. Hmmm well that's kind of depressing LOL...great work Lilith
