Catastrophe
A Story by Lilibeth A.K
A short story about a robbery.
BANG! The sound of a pistol firing echoed through the deadly silent street. Everything beyond that point was a blur. Screams, a car racing away, police sirens wailing like a newborn baby. Reporters from every newspaper, news channel, and true crime podcast in the city swarmed around the crime scene. By 10:00 p.m., the only thing holding them back was caution tape and armed police officers. "This is Kelly Klarkson from Channel 6 news reporting live on a catastrophic crime scene. No statements have been released by police but we suspect this was an armed robbery, potentially an organized murder. We will keep you posted." Kelly's cameraman, Michael Smith, cut the camera.

Lilibeth, is this something you yourself experienced first hand? Why did you write this? May I make some modest suggestions? The first is universal advice for writers I have come across many times and agree with. Write from your own life, your own experiences, your own feelings. This gives your writing authenticity, authority. That is one reason I really like much of your poetry. Your choice of words here is dull, cliche. I found some of your poetry quite creative. Wherever your creativity comes from, while you probably can’t keep it turned on 24 hours a day, you can edit your own work when you are feeling creative. I reread my work, often find that on a second look a sentence or paragraph in a story, or lines in a poem, don’t seem that interesting, and I will try to rewrite that portion in a more creative way.
