Trying To Fly

Trying To Fly

A Poem by Lila_Halliwell

Chloe tried,

And tried,

And tried.

The plan was simple.

Learn to fly.

She climbed on top

Of an old van roof

Where a lazy cat

With a boring look,

Blinked it eyes

And gently purred,

When the umbrella opened

It barely stirred.

Then a little body

Sprung into flight

A fearless jump,

With her breath held tight.

Rainbow colors

dip and swing,

Lending their drift

Again and again

But over and over

She blamed the wind.

And the lazy cat

Annoyed and bored

Swished it tail,

And went back to it’s nap.

I love this -- what a pleasant read. You so seamlessly weave the majestic with the mundane. It reminds me of a childhood memory when I convinced my little brother he could fly if he believed well enough, so he jumped off this footrest and busted his nose. What an uncharacteristically mean-spirited thing for me to do! Anyway, thank you for crafting and sharing this wonderful writing.
