Chapter 24 (Conclusion to Part 4)A Chapter by CreepingDeathChapter 24 Battery stood still as he stared at Polaris. They didn’t break eye contact. Polaris let out a growl, as he changed his stance. He held his sword with two hands, placing it in the middle of his body. Battery grinned. “Wolfslayer. I wondered when you would come here.” he said. Polaris said nothing. “Well, as you can see, you interrupted us here, so I’ll have to kill you.” Battery said. Polaris continued his silence. Battery grew impatient. He walked over to his throne and grabbed a large warhammer that lay next to it. Polaris readied himself for the fight. Remember what you learned. Keep your distance until he uses his ability. Polaris thought to himself. Battery walked slowly towards Polaris. “I’ll end this quickly.” He said, raising his hand towards Polaris. Now, normally, Polaris would be stuck in place, unable to do anything, and would be easily killed. But this wasn’t normal. Once Battery rested his hand at where Polaris would be, he wasn’t there anymore. What? Just then, Polaris thrusted his fist into Battery’s head. The impact blew Battery off his feet, knocking him back. Where’d he go? Did he disappear? Battery thought to himself. He could barely catch himself. He struggled to get back on his feet. “Not bad, wolfslayer.” He said. Polaris looked over at Battery and scoffed. “Keep your mouth shut. You might embarrass yourself.” he said. Battery was shocked. “How dare you talk to me like that!” He shouted. Polaris kept his gaze at Battery. Don’t let him intimidate you. That’s what he wants. Make him angry. Remove his rational thought. Polaris thought to himself. Battery quickly gained his foothold. He looked up at Polaris with hatred in his eyes. “Tell you what. Let’s have a test of skill. I won’t use my ability.” he negotiated. Polaris looked at him. Battery was true to what he said. Polaris could sense it. He nodded. Battery grinned. “Let’s see what you’ve got, wolfslayer!” he shouted. Polaris held his stance, while Battery let his hammer sink into the ground. He dragged it across the floor as he walked towards Polaris. Polaris started walking towards Battery as well. Once they were only a couple of feet away from each other, Battery was the first to strike, swinging the hammer downward. It was a large weapon, carrying lots of power, but very slow to wield. Polaris took an open palm and pushed the hammer over. It slammed into the floor, creating a large crater. Polaris took his sword and stabbed it towards Battery’s chest. Battery grabbed the blade with his hand. It sliced through his palm, but didn’t reach his chest. Battery grinned. He tightened his grip on the blade, and lifted it over his head, along with Polaris. He slammed him into the ground. Polaris was stunned for a while. He saw Battery swing his hammer down, trying to bash Polaris while he was on the ground. Polaris quickly rolled out of the way, grabbing his sword. He got back onto his feet. Battery looked over at Polaris. While Battery was still recovering from the swing, Polaris lunged forward. This is it. This is the attack that’ll kill you, Battery! He thought to himself. Polaris’ sword stabbed through their chest, but it wasn’t Battery’s. Polaris’ eyes widened as the little innocence left in them flushed out. As the blood spilled onto him, it was revealed who he stabbed. His stomach was an empty void. His heart stopped beating all together. His thoughts began to fog up. Where’d they come from!? What did I just do!? His thoughts were racing in his mind. The person that lay motionless with a blade sticking through their chest was Aza. Polaris looked up at Battery. He’s smiling! That piece of s**t is smiling! Battery had a full tooth grin across his face. He began to laugh as he saw Polaris’ reaction to what happened. Battery lifted his hand, clenching it into a fist. He punched Polaris with all his force. He went flying back, skidding across the floor. Aza was still stuck on his blade the entire time. Polaris struggled to stand up. He caught me off guard. After everything I did, he still tricked me. He thought. He looked at his sword. Is she already dead? He questioned. He softly removed the blade from her chest. He stuck a hand out so she wouldn’t hit the ground. He rested her down, waving a hand across her face. She blinked. Polaris sighed. “Don’t worry, Aza. I’ll tend to you once I’m done with this.” He whispered. She pointed away from them. “Dra… ven.” she said. Polaris gasped. He looked over. Draven lie, completely motionless. Is he dead? He wondered. He turned to Aza. “He should be fine. I’m worried about you. Listen, click with your tongue every minute so that I know you’re conscious, ok?” he said. Aza nodded. She was very weak. He got back to his feet. Battery stood there, watching the entire thing. Polaris didn’t feel any emotion. What little hope he had in the world was drained from him. He felt that this fight wasn’t a battle for the fate of the world, but a chore. “Battery. I’ll no longer hold back.” Polaris said. He threw his sword into the air, jumping up and catching it in his mouth. He landed on all fours. Let’s get this over with. He thought to himself. Battery grinned. Polaris reached into the bag on his hip. He pulled out the pocket watch. It’s still at 11. He thought, returning it to his bag. Polaris went full on aggressive. No more holding back. He dashed towards Battery. Even without his ability, he was still much faster than average, especially on all fours. Battery raised his hammer above his head, slamming it into the ground. He planned for it to hit Polaris, but he was able to dodge the strike. Battery turned his head. Polaris slashed his sword horizontally. Battery jumped over the blade, which is exactly what Polaris wanted. Battery was mid-air when Polaris took his claws and slammed them into his shoulders, throwing him into the ground. Battery was dazed on the ground. Polaris quickly took his sword, stabbing through Battery’s side. The blade went right through his flesh. Battery choked up blood. “How could this, happen?” Battery gasped for air. “Shut up.” Polaris said. He took his claws and dug them into Battery’s chest. He removed his claws, but kept his sword in Battery. Polaris stood up. I won! I beat Battery! He thought. A single click was heard echoing through the throne room. Polaris looked over at Aza. Her eyes glistened, and she smiled. “Good… job.” she said. Polaris’ eyes widened. He quickly ran over to Aza. “How are you feeling?” he asked. Aza shook her head. “Go to Draven. He… needs more help.” she said between long breaths. Polaris looked over at Draven, then back at Aza. He nodded, and ran over to Draven. He looked awful. His face was completely flushed of color, and blood flowed through the gash in his head. “Draven, are you alright? Are you conscious?” Polaris asked. Draven opened his eyes. He could barely speak. “Don’t worry about me, find Aza.” he said. Polaris realised that Draven didn’t see what happened to her. They worry about each other too much. He thought to himself. “She’s fine, but you aren’t. Your gushing blood.” he said. Draven reached a hand to the injury, rubbing it. He looked back at his hand covered in blood. “I guess I am.” he said. He chuckled. Polaris reached a hand out, helping Draven back to his feet. He swung Draven around his shoulder, and walked over to Aza. Draven gasped. “Aza, what happened!” his voice was back. Aza smiled. Polaris kept Draven from running over. “Don’t worry, I have a healing potion.” he said. Draven sighed, then nodded. “Give it to her, then take me to a hospital.” he said. Polaris looked at him. “But, you’re in much worse condition.” He said. Draven shook his head. “I can take it, but I can’t see Aza suffer anymore.” He explained. Polaris sighed, and reached for his bag. He went to open it, but his hand was stuck. His entire body was stuck in place. “You… Idiot!” a voice came from behind them. Polaris’ eyes widened. Draven looked over. Battery! Draven made a sword and went to attack, but he was stuck in place as well. “You’re all fools! Forgetting about me like some sort of minor obstacle. Well, now look at you, trapped in place. You can’t do a thing anymore! And now, I’ll kill you both!” Battery shouted. He grabbed his warhammer from the ground and walked towards Polaris. But Battery never made it to them. He collapsed onto the ground, spitting up blood. “Goddamnit you mutt! How dare you injure-” he paused to cough. “How dare you injure me!” He said. Polaris could move his arm, but nothing else. He reached into his bag before Battery noticed, pulling out a dagger. He threw it at Battery. It hit him right in the neck. Battery gasped, falling to the ground. His breath was heavy, and his hold on Draven and Polaris was released. Polaris walked over to Battery. “This time, I’ll make sure you die.” he said, pulling his sword from Battery’s side. Polaris heard Battery whisper something. “Jkuul nan takeo ni sandoris.” he said. Polaris realised what he was saying. A curse! He thought. Polaris quickly took his sword and slashed through Battery’s chest. Battery took one more gasp of air before death. Battery, the legendary warrior, and the former most powerful person in the world, dead by the last living wolfslayer, Polaris. Polaris looked over at Draven and Aza, and nodded. Just then, everything went silent. The clashing of metal outside ceased, as the gates swung open. The four horsemen came into the throne room. “Is he dead?” Death asked. Polaris nodded. “I was wondering why the army stopped attacking.” he said. Draven was confused. Polaris walked over to Draven and Aza. Everything went according to plan. I would come in here after Draven faught Battery. The four horsemen would stay at the gate, fighting off the army that would surely come after us. Battery would try to use his ability, but I would use my slowed time to attack him before he could use it. Then, he would get cocky, saying to fight without our abilities. Polaris thought to himself. “Give her the potion already.” Draven said. Polaris nodded, taking the potion from his bag. He put it to Aza’s mouth, and she drank from it. She immediately started to recover. Her eyes began to fill with color, and the cut on her chest stopped bleeding. She looked over to Draven and gasped. “Oh my god, Drae-Drae, are you alright!?” she exclaimed. Draven nodded. “I’m fine, Aza.” he said. She began to tear up. “I was so worried about you! I thought… I thought you died!” she shouted. Draven shook his head. “I’m alright.” he said. Aza looked over at Polaris. “Thank you, for everything. If you weren’t here, Draven might’ve died.” she said. Polaris then realised why he killed Battery. It was because Draven and Aza were the only family he felt he had anymore. The town of Sanitarium completely forgot about him, labeling him a maniac. His parents were dead. He had no siblings, no cousins. No one, except for Draven and Aza. Polaris began to feel his heart swell. He loved Draven and Aza like a family, and would treat them as such. He’d protect them as much as he could. Draven helped Aza to her feet, and they all walked out of the castle. The sun began to rise. Polaris climbed onto his horse. “What are we gonna do now? With Kravero destroyed.” Polaris asked. “It’ll get rebuilt, I’ll make sure of that. And Polaris, you’re welcome to stay with us.” Draven said. Polaris looked over, his eyes widened. “Really, you’d let me stay with you?” he was shocked. Draven nodded. Polaris’ began to choke up. Tears swelled in his eyes. “Thank you.” he said. He turned to the four horsemen. “I guess this is goodbye.” he said. They all nodded, riding off into the forest. Now, Polaris, Draven, and Aza would return to Kravero. They’d have it rebuilt, and they would all live a peaceful life. They would never forget the sacrifices made to get where they were. Hunter gave his life to delay Draven’s death, which is exactly what saved him. Cravell and the knight were still in the castle, but they would soon recover and return to their kingdom. “Come on now, let’s go.” Draven said. And with that, they all rode off into the forest. No more did Draven have to worry about Battery sending assassins after him. No more did he have to worry about his friends and loved ones getting hurt because of him. His life would finally be peaceful. Exactly what he wanted. Conclusion to Part 4 © 2019 CreepingDeath |
