Chapter 15

Hunter began surveying the forest around Kravero to see if there was anyone else who survived. He looked through the entire forest without finding anyone. He started to descend to the ground. He would land and look through the forest that way. Maybe they were hidden in a tree or bush. He searched the entire forest again and still didn’t find anyone. He began to lose all hope when he finally found a note stuck to a tree. He started to read it. Hello Hunter. I knew you would stop by to come save your friends, but it seems that no one is here. Confused? You should be. The wolfslayer was killed by yours truly and the pup is with me. Looks like you’re too late. Boo-hoo. Hunter grinded his teeth. He ripped the note off the tree and crumpled it. He sprouted wings and flew high into the sky. He needed to return to Draven quickly before he was put in danger.

“Aza, could you be a dear and get me something to eat?” Battery commanded. Aza began walking to the dining hall. “Of course your highness.” she responded. Battery laughed aloud. He turned to his second in command, Orion. “How are the plans going?” he asked. Orion turned to Battery. “The assault on Sanitarium will start in 2 weeks.” he responded. Battery nodded. “This pleases me greatly. Everything is falling in place smoothly. What about Draven?” he asked. “We organised for 5 assassins to be sent to kill him. He should be alone for a while. That is when they will strike.” Orion responded. Battery smiled. “It’s only a matter of time until I rule the world. Nothing can stop me now!”

Polaris and David’s journey to Sanitarium would take at least a week. They were sure to take plenty of food and drink with them to last. There were 3 places they had to go through to get to Sanitarium. First, they had to cross the desert of Georgia. Second, they had to maneuver through the Murderous Mountains of Tareek. And third, they had to cross the Jungle of Azarath. It would be a tough journey, but with the warrior instincts of Polaris, and the map knowledge David carried with him, they would surely make it through to the end. “You ready to go?” David asked. “Yeah, let’s go.” It would take them 2 hours to reach the desert. But it would take upwards of 9 hours to go through the desert. Though, it was the least of their worries. They both hiked through the forest, and in what felt like minutes, were already faced with the desert. Giant sand hills covered the dry wasteland. The wind seemed to be colored by the dust. They began to tread through the desert. David began to tire. The sun began to set, and both of their feet were sore. “Let’s stop here and rest. We’ll continue tomorrow.” David said. Polaris nodded. They ate the bread they took with them, shared a canister of water, and went to sleep. 1 of the 7 days was done. Battery’s forces would invade Sanitarium in 2 weeks. They had nothing to worry about. They could be late 5 days and would still be safe. But perhaps something else awaited them at Sanitarium.

Hunter was nearing the shack where Draven hid. He landed and began to walk near the door. He opened it and entered inside. He looked over at the bed where Draven lay. He was sound asleep. Hunter sighed a sigh of relief. He walked over to the chair next to the bed and sat. He slowly closed his eyes as he began to sleep. Though his rest would not be long. A knock came from the door. Both Draven and Hunter were woken from the knock. “What’s that?” Draven asked. Hunter put a finger to his lips. “Be quiet.” he whispered. Hunter grabbed his cloak from the chair and put it on. It concealed his face, meaning whoever is at the door wouldn’t have suspicions. He crept to the door and opened it just enough so he could stick his head out. He saw two men wearing garbs over their faces. “Who lives here?” they asked. “Oh, no one. I’m a small clinic that works with sick patients.” he explained. The men looked at eachother. “May we come in?” one of them asked. “Oh, I’m afraid not. I have a patient who is deathly ill. It's some sort of unknown disease.” he responded. The men continued towards the door. “We don’t care.” they said. “Stop before you get ill.” he warned. “Get out of our way creep.” they said. Hunter threw his arms, latching around their throats. “I told you you would get ill.” he said. He pressed deeply into their skin. Their flesh began to darken as their veins started popping out. Hunter made one last squeeze as their necks seemed to disintegrate. Their bodies fell to the floor first, then their rotting heads fell after. Hunter was about to close the door when something grabbed onto it. Three more men stood at the door. Battery knows where we are. He thought to himself. Hunter looked up at the three. “I’m telling you, this illness isn’t a joke.” he said. The assassin bigger than the other two punched Hunter in the face. He went flying back. The other two assassins came storming in. Draven shot up in the bed. “What’s going on?” he asked. Hunter looked over to him. “Don’t move, I can handle them.” he said. Hunter threw his cloak off and reached for the hair inside his chest. He pulled a large clump out and formed it into the shape of a sword. The strings of hair compressed together forming the sword. Hunter targeted the assassin on the left first. The assassin wielded a scimitar. The assassin went for a slash at his arm. Hunter grabbed the blade with his hand. It began rusting where he grabbed it. He took his sword and sliced the assassin’s arm off. Hunter realised he left his flank open. The second assassin, wielding a khopesh, dashed towards him. Hunter took his sword and plunged it into his chest. He sliced through the chest, breaking the ribs. The shards of bone flew into the assassin’s neck and head. He fell to the ground. Hunter got up and stabbed through his chest. Only one left. Hunter looked over to see the third assassin sprinting towards him. The assassin was much bigger than the other two, and wielded a massive hammer covered in spikes. Even though he was very large, he still moved quite fast. He started to swing the hammer down. Hunter readied himself. The hammer never touched him. A large sword stuck through the assassin. As he fell to the ground, who stood behind him was none other than Draven. He smiled. “Looks like I saved you there.” he said. “We have to leave, now. Battery knows where you are.” Hunter explained. Draven nodded and both ran through the door. Hunter sprouted wings and grabbed Draven. They began to fly away to a different location. Battery couldn’t kill Draven, no matter how hard he tried and how precise his plans were. Though, the first attack was just the start of something deeper. Something Battery planned for. This time, Draven would not escape.
