Chapter 14

“Take the rag off her.” was the first thing Aza would hear before she was greeted with Battery. A blindfold was removed from her eyes as she was met face to face with him. She looked up at him. “And who are you?” she asked. Battery looked at her. “Mind what you say girl.” he responded. “You’ll be staying here as my slave for a while. So get used to the place.” he said. Aza looked around worriedly. “Like I’d ever serve you.” she responded. “Oh trust me,” Battery said. Aza’s vision became cloudy. She felt as though her mind had been infiltrated. She struggled to keep her thoughts straight before giving into Battery’s control. “You definitely will.” he said.

Polaris lay in the snow. The flakes around him were red with blood. Crows pecked at the skin around his wounds. He was completely unconscious. A strange man found him in the forest. They grabbed him and carried him away into the forest. It was moments later when Polaris awoke on a hardwood floor. “Hey, don’t move yet. I’m trying to heal your cut. Move and it’ll open back up, ok?” the person told him. Polaris kept still. “Who are you?” he asked. The person stayed silent for a bit before answering. “My name’s David.” he said. Polaris sighed. “I was told to stay away from you.” he said. “Looks like you didn’t follow their advice.” he responded. Polaris smirked. “Alright, you should be fine now. Get up slowly.” he told him. Polaris began to slowly get up from the floor. He sat up and finally saw who this David was. He wore a large brown cloak. It was torn and worn down. He had a dirty face and an unshaven beard with a large head of hair. “Surprise.” he said. Polaris looked around. “So, you’re the other guy who still lives in Houssmead.” he said. David nodded. Polaris started to stand. “So, any idea what we should do now?” David asked. Polaris looked surprised. What did he mean by what should we do now? “What do you mean?” Polaris asked. “Well let’s see. When I found you your ‘wife’ wasn’t there, so maybe we should find her first.” he responded. Polaris grinned. “You’re pretty smart y’know.” he said. David began heading for the door. “I learned all I know from this.” he said. He showed Polaris a manuscript. The front page read The Call of Ktulu. “What are we gonna do with that?” Polaris asked. David flipped through the pages quickly. “I’ve managed to decipher the entire thing. It reads that the warrior Ktulu is trapped in the Sea of Abyss. Houssmead is exactly one mile away. In the scripture, there are many things that are only one. One dove to give Ktulu the message. One guard waiting at the gate of darkness. One second to kill any man.” he explained. Polaris raised an eyebrow. “Which means?” he asked. David rolled his eyes. “Can’t you see? This village is the perfect place. All we have to do is go the one mile to the ocean and recite the true Call of Ktulu.” he said. “Ohhh.” Polaris responded. “Well come on now, he’s our best bet against Battery now that Draven is gone.” David said. Polaris’ eyes widened. “Wait, you know Draven?” he asked. David turned around. “Don’t think of me as some sort of celebrity.” he said. Polaris shook his head. “That’s not what I mean. I know him too! Do you have any idea where he could be?” Polaris asked. David scoffed. “Don’t be so disrespectful towards him.” he said. Polaris was confused. “I’m not kidding, do you know wh-” Before Polaris finished David interrupted him. “He’s dead you moron!” he said. Polaris shook his head. “That’s not true. Last night Battery said something about leaving him alone.” he said. David stopped. He swung himself around. He was ecstatic. “Holy s**t! You met Battery and survived!” he exclaimed. Polaris looked surprised. He cleared his throat and made his voice seem deeper. “Why, of course I did. I am a wolfslayer after all.” he said. David’s jaw dropped. “This is great! You, me, and Ktulu could bring Battery’s end! We’ll save the world” he said. Polaris looked up at the ceiling. “Yeah, we will.” he said. “Well come on then, let’s not waste anymore time. We must hurry.” David said. They both left for the Sea of Abyss. Polaris heard stories of this place. Apparently the water was so dark that light couldn’t go through it. Almost like a smokescreen. It took them 20 minutes to get to the ocean. “This is it.” David said. Polaris’ stared at the black abyss. “Now, let me recite the call. Ktulu will rise from the ocean, and once that happens, Battery won’t stand a chance.” he explained. Polaris nodded. David began to walk closer to the sea. The ripples of water sounded like cries for help. David opened the scripture and began reading. “Do rae me o'sulfur. Nan trek ae tomorus. Horel jaak rae Ktulu.” David read the summoning. Polaris and David both waited in anticipation. Nothing happened. No change in the water, no epic thunderstorm. Nothing. “Maybe you read it wrong.” Polaris said. David shook his head. “No, this can’t be.” he said. David fell to his knees. Polaris was confused. “What, what’s happening?” he asked. David looked over. “Ktulu truly is dead.” he said. Polaris sat down. He was disappointed. “I didn’t think this could be an outcome.” David explained. Polaris looked over. “Look, me and you can still defeat Battery.” he said. David looked over at Polaris. Polaris smiled at him. David smirked back. “Maybe, but we’d need more than just us two. In fact, we’ll probably need an army.” he explained. Polaris stood up. “Well then, let’s find us an army.” he said. David stood with him. They began to walk away from the ocean. Polaris and David both knew what they had to do. But it was difficult to find this army they needed. Everyone in Baile nan Gaisgeach was captured. Polaris knew exactly where to go. “I know where we need to go. It’s the town where I’m from. They are most likely desperate and looking for a leader. I will be that leader. We will fight against Battery and defeat him.” Polaris explained. “Alright, let's go with your plan. What’s this place called?” David asked. “Sanitarium.” he said.
