My Family

My Family

A Poem by Pamela Lijing Zhou

Caged.

Through golden bars

I look at the world,

longingly.

I wanna free myself,

force my way out,

but I can't.

I grab the bars,

their coldness

 numbing me.

I wanna run freely,

feel the wind's touch,

be kissed by the sun.

I want out,

outta this cage,

outta this safe haven.

I wanna spread my wings,

fly away.

I want...

freedom.
