Weight of Premonitions

Weight of Premonitions

A Poem by Ligi.

How quickly they've fallen
With the weight that they've carried
Like bricks on my back
But Im simply not falling.

"And here is your fortune,"
They say,
"You would not believe."

I came for the soldier
And left with his glory
Shed tears in his honor
But walk with no feeling.

Im just not that girl who brings water in pails to your father
Im just not that girl who lays pennies on your eyelids
Im just not that girl who lays covered in ashes
Im just not that girl who sings eloquent stories
And whispers the endings.

I just won't believe you
I just won't believe you
I just won't believe you

Unfold me your prophecy
and read me your story
follow lines on my palm
and distinguish my meaning.

I'll take the story you've written
across the etches of my hand
I ball them up into my fists
and throw them into the river.

Let them swim with your premonitions.
Let them fold with your fears.
Let them drown in your warnings.

For I am still standing.
And I am still walking.
And I am still swimming.
And I am not drowning.
