A contract with monsters

Mark 4

    Three days before the Magic tournament.
    "What? All participants have to have made a contract?"
    "What is a contract, sir?"
    "It is a bond made between a person and a magical beast."
    "Why the hell would they keep this information till 3 days!?"
    "Are you saying you can't muster enough courage to-"
    Vlay grabbed the collar of my shirt.
    "I'll do it! And I'll get a better one than you!"
    "He seemed angrier than usual"
    "The only available scrolls of travel we have are for Deep Swamp, Sky Tower, and Gear City. The shops selling scrolls are currently closed as well."
    "And that explains his anger how?"
    "All the monsters in those areas are highly compatible with me."
    "And he is...?"
    "Highly incompatible."
    "Ah..."
    At that point we split up again. Vlay headed to Sky Tower where Gamma would soon join him. I went to the Deep Swamp, while Ashleen went to Gear City. There were many creatures of the dark attribute, but I was looking for something better than the average.
    "Snakes, Serpents, Wolves... Not good enough."
    And then. In the distance. I saw it.
    "You're just perfect!"
    I ran towards it. It had beautiful white fur. Emerald green eyes. And it didn't cower in fear when I ran towards it nor did it aggro at me. I could sense the potential within this magnificent beast.
    "By the laws of Magica and the land that gives life. I ask of you to join my heart and soul. Do you accept the contract?"
    It placed its hand in mine. I had already thought of a name
    "Magica guide this ones heart and soul to mine. I dub thee, Dust"
    I could feel warmth entering my body. I felt it in my new partner as well.

    Those damn higher ups. The only scrolls we had were for places with monsters incompatible with me! I climbed up Sky Tower with Gamma. There came two doorways.
    "We'll split up here."
    "Got it."
    I can't afford to lose to Cilufer. I want to at least be on the same level as him. I searched while climbing and fighting monsters. I remember my teacher telling me that monsters that don't aggro on you are the best ones to make a contract with.
    "I wonder how you're doing, teacher. Maybe I'll visit the academy after the tournament."
    I entered the 17th floor. There were many sky and ice attributes here. All of them were scared of me and either attacked or ran away. All of them except one. It was an Ice Lizard. I knew I was incompatible with Ice types the most, but I saw something within this monster.
    "Oi. You wanna make a contract with me?"
    It came closer to me. I held my hand out.
    "By the laws of Magica and the sky that brings wind. I ask you to join me, mind and soul. Do you accept the contract?"
    It placed its tail on my hand. I felt myself shiver due to the incompatibility in our elements.
    "Urrgh... I'll fight this. We'll fight this together, partner. Guide this spirit, mind and soul to mine. I dub thee, Froshe."
    I know we'll struggle at first, but I believe we can make a name for ourselves.

    We met at the local guild. I'm guessing I must have frightened some people with my new partner. I saw everyone at a table and sat with them.
    "How'd your search g- EEEEK!"
    "Out of all the things, you chose a damn spider? Well it certainly fits your character."
    "You hear that, Dust? We're so compatible even the dim witted Vlay can tell."
    "You b*****d"
    "But Vlay I'm more confused on why you chose an Ice element contrast to your Fire element."
    "I know what you're thinking, but I've made my decision. Shouldn't you be more surprised at Ashleen's partner?"
    I took a look around and found it flying above.
    "A gear dragon? That's an S rank monster! A bronze rank getting an S rank contract is sure to attract attention. My Silver Spider is also S rank though."
    "My Ice Lizard is A rank."
    "As is my Flying Red Panda."
    "That tiny thing?"
    We had our partners for the tournament, but still don't know what actual games we'll be partaking in. The higher ups enjoy not letting people know.
    We were approached by Team Firecracker.
    "Good to see you again Team Blank."
    "Same to you."
    "I see you got your partners."
    Kaen had an S rank Crimson Fox. Ryuga got himself an A rank Shade Serpent. Aster had a B rank Aero Bird. I could tell that our rivals would be a formidable opponent.
    Two days until the tournament.
