Goodbye Zeeland

Goodbye Zeeland

A Poem by Light
"

A poem that you will forget

"

No city can make me feel so conflicted,

it’s such a blessing, but so cruel

No city could ever do that,

except the one that belonged to you

You were the person of the owls,

the boats, the shells and the sea

By the time you left

you had almost forgotten me

I can picture the room

which I’ll never enter again

and the stairs I’ll never climb

Will I forget those too, like you did everything back then?

Will there be a time when we are strangers,

both left in the dust

One when I forget you

One when your body turned to rust

Author's Note

Light
My grandma passed away years ago after a long period of her having dementia. She was the last of my grandparents. While writing this poem, I remembered all of the good times I used to have with her and the rest of my family. I know it’s impossible to get those busy family get-togethers back, and it kinda feels like my family has fallen apart. I love you always oma <3

Second stanza is a great hook, and the rest was beautiful to re-read after reading the Author's Note.

Thank you!
Interesting metaphor. City. My first thought is city is life. Complex. Busy. We love our cities and own our lives there. After reading your notes family seems right. One in the same, right? I've had a lot of experience with dementia. It is like two deaths. Rust never sleeps. I read it in your Light.

After reading your author's note, I had to go back and reread the poem. As an elegy to one you truly loved it is a beautiful piece.
On my first reading I admit I thought, killer opening and a powerful push of sense. Though I feared another young done me wrong twist lay somewhere up ahead. And if that had of been the case, which apparently its not, you would have had me almost to the end.

Enjoy'd and will be back
