A poem about poetry, the deepest of connections

Poetry? It’s not a string of words.

I can make you feel what I feel,

live the moments which I’ve lived

We have never met, but you know me,

better than some of the closest people in my life

Poetry is the synchronization of our heartbeats when I write about love,

the tears in our eyes when I write about pain,

and the confusion when you don’t understand me

Poetry is the coincidences that brought you to read this,

to pay attention to a stranger in a way that warms my heart

You have read this, and I don’t know you, but you know me

Poetry is me thanking you for your thoughts

Hi! Poetry is an amazing way for me to vent, and this is kind of a thank you to everyone who’s ever paid my thoughts any attention. So, thank you so much for reading!

The wonderful gift of poetry is that you need not thank your audience much because the words you share and the wisdom revealed is truly gift enough. Empathy is its currency. Poetry is a conversation with a stranger never met. Where you reveal aspects of your heart and soul in hopes to find commonality as a human living being. It's the reaching out of your hand in friendship and comforting those of similar pain in the recognition of it. So keep writing and sharing your gift with others.
