A letter to Cupid

A letter to Cupid

A Poem by Light
"

A sad poem from a sad person

"

Hit me in the back, now

and leave an open wound

Play the melodies loud

Don’t leave your instrument untuned

Slice my skin all open,

like a pie at your banquet

Cupid, you’re so unaware

of the tears that I have shed

Tense the string at last

And shoot me as if we’re at war

Then I will fall with grace

knowing you haven’t gone too far

Slice my skin all open,

like a fig at your banquet

Cupid, you’re so unaware

of every time I’ve been misled

Hand me the glasses

Which will make my vision blur

I want to act just like a fool

Ecstatic’s what I wish I were

Slice my skin all open,

like a steak at your banquet

Cupid, you’re so unaware

of the void left in my head

I really liked reading this Light, I always enjoy a good poem on lovesickness. Your use of repetition stood out to me the most in this work. Also, good job staying consistent and effective with the metaphors and imagery and such! I often have trouble with that and my poems end up kind of messy, so I really appreciated it when I read. Keep up the good work !

Thank you so much! I really appreciate all the feedback!
I think we all know this frustration too well. It feels like we spend so much of our time and energy on listening to cupid's arrow that we forget to listen to our own needs. The heart can be a damning thing, especially in the hands of the wrong people. To me, this shows just how hurt you've been in the past when trying to follow the tugs you feel on your heartstrings. At times if feels as though we're at the mercy of what our heart wants rather than what our needs are.

I really enjoyed reading this. Keep writing, and keep your chin up! Love likes to surprise us around the corner, when we least expect it.

Poisoned arrows bury themselves deep into the heart. I thought this was an interesting idea. We fancy getting hit by the cupid's arrow, yet the reality of that might very well be death.
