Starry Night

Starry Night

A Poem by Pebbles

I wake from my drunken sleep

The smell of la fee verte

Makes me retch and remember

The chair in front of me is screaming for attention

Feeling only madness driving through my veins

My needs capturing me keeping me hostage to self

I see that chair and need to paint

My driving force, my need, my creation, my god

I see within a face such emotion that I need to

Capture its essence before it fades into dust

Money is so low that

I create mirrored paintings

Even peasants do not work for nothing

So unless I am just to paint landscapes and flowers

I must be model unto myself

I see avenues of trees and need to paint

At night time I throw my windows open to

Breathe the air of the city

I look upon a starry night and my thirst wells up in my chest

The night is captured at the touch of brush, paint upon canvas

My addiction is met with oblivion as once again I hit green liquid within glass

A need to quench this thirst, to steady this hand or to free this mind

How do I manage to soar so high, yet

Fall so low almost touching heaven and hell at times

One day you will look into the starry night and you will behold a man

Will you feel my struggle?

One day you will all know the shame, the pain and the tears

I hope you manage to see the beauty

And not just the madness, within this mind of mine.

My name is Vincent

Vincent van Gogh..........................

The sights, sounds, and scents surrounding this brilliant man driven into that abyss of yesterday... You've painted van Gogh with a beautiful, stark brush of words and wonders, and made me wish he had stayed.

This is brilliant! Great tribute to a great artist. I respect and appreciate your painstaking efforts in creating this (having just done a similar piece about Jim Morrison). Thank you Pebbles. Mission accomplished.

I got to visit the church cemetery where Vincent and Theo are buried, and the wheat field in his last painting is just outside the wall. To paint that, he literally had his back against the wall of the cemetery. That impressed me deeply. You've captured that desperation excruciatingly well here, Pebbles. Thank you.

This is fantastic. I'm quite obsessed with this painting, actually. And I'm amused by the fact that it's not behind glass or anything. (Hell, I almost stole it!) Anyway, great poem, I think that you captured the essence of the art and the artist well. My favorite lines were:

How do I manage to soar so high, yet
Fall so low almost touching heaven and hell at times

Well done! =]

This is so cool! If anyone knows the life of Vincent van Gogh, you summed it up perfectly and went even further. It's true that the line between madness and genius is a fine line(if not one in the same). You capture the soul of why everyone: poet, painter, sculpter or novelest, is driven to create. I love this, you say so much about the creative spirit.

Amazing!! I've taken a course in Art and studied all about the artists including Van Gogh.. And I wrote a paper on his series of "twelve flowers in a vase" .. and i had to go through his work and try to understand his life story and all emotions he was going through.. so i totally get your poem and i must say.. well written!
