Shining Down on a 45A Poem by RachelReaperthis is a tribute to my favorite bandShining Down on a 45 I'm staring down the barrel Of a 45 What in God's name have I done To my life I lift the bottle to my lips Take one sip Let it slip Watch the shards shatter across the floor
I see the drinks and all the friends The drugs and all the fans The reminiscent nostalgia makes it seem like I'm swimming through the ashes of another life There is no real reason To accept the pain
Or take the blame One pull and it's the end of my game
But to Shine Down on this 45 clenched in my fist Is hope and a bold, fire-driven light You gave me this reason to survive But I thought I'd never see you walk Through my door again And now I see the shock Written clearly all over your face You're horrified and don't know what to say
So you slice through the thick darkness My 45 disinigrates to dust Taking my hand you lead me away from A past of pure disgust And now I vow to you that unless Both our sparks flicker to a stop That dreaded 45 will never reconstruct
