Breaking the thin ice

Breaking the thin ice

A Story by Li

"No, you can't do this"
"It's long over due" I said
He kept staring, seemingly confused, but somehow not surprised.

Silence.
Silence.
Silence.

"But, we love eachother." He said finally, looking at me once and looking far ahead as if to make sense of his own words.
I got up, picked up my bag....
"I know, but love just isn't enough"

I walked away, his loud breaths behind me, his foot locked to that bench, helpless.
And then silence until it was just the sound of my footsteps.

Now what?

The minimalism is shocking. Caustic. There's no room for breathing. Like a brain freeze or that drop in your tummy when the rollercoaster falls. Wonderful and fresh. Well played ma'am.
