Prideful love

Prideful love

A Poem by Li

I wish it was all like the movies,
Us exchanging I love yous and living happily
I wish all it took was for me to love you,
for me to miss you,
for me to want you, because I do.

But it's not.
We can't undo what's done.
We can't forget.
My pride won't let it go,
and you have an even bigger ego.
You miss me everyday but you won't let it show
I know I'll never love anyone like you, but noone should know.

So let's turn our heads away babe,
and maybe our hearts will follow.
Because I still love you,
but i'll never let it show.

This is so simply stated, but you're addressing a huge stumbling block for most humans: PRIDE. You have peeled away all the drama & complications that come along with our prideful behavior, so you can simply show this one angle & you show it well. It can take a lifetime to conquer pride & as an old person myself, I will wager that most people who say they have many regrets are often regretting so much prideful behavior. This is so powerful & thought-provoking! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

With time the heart learns that it is not an easy road to love or to be in love, it isn't a one-way trip free of bumps and toll roads. With time the heart learns that love is what stays strong when the body falls weak, that love is what stays steady when the road ahead becomes troublesome, that love is what stays together when all else falls apart.

In a moment, the heart learns to ache. It learns to miss, it learns to deny, it learns to hold on, it learns to go numb.

With time, the heart learns to let go. It learns that the ache was just a test for the road to come. With time, the heart finds love, and it learns how to keep it strong.

Stay prideful Li, it's never a bad thing to have those feelings, even when you feel like you need to hide them or ditch them for the sake of yourself/others. Keep your head up and your heart will follow.

Beautiful work!

Chrys, this review alone can be made a poem. You put it so beautifully. Thanks!
Has the somber sound of post bitter breakup. What makes it worse is it may have been the first love. The wounds have obviously not healed, but eventually they will. Time and distance may work slowly, but they usually do work.
