Wow. I love that last refrain. "Don't say that I am cold. Don't say that you're lonely". Its easier to not care than to give your heart to someone, just to see them break it.

You're seeing from the other person's perspective and I like that. And like you said to some people it may seem like because the person doesn't show affection in the traditional way, it seems like they would eventually break your heart but it maybe because they are just not good at expressing their love. It's not necessarily because they don't care. Thanks for the comment Anne.

God, you put that feeling into words perfectly. I think the hardest thing to deal with is when someone you care for deeply mistakes your personal way of showing affection as something else, or your personality just doesn't click to their definition of "caring" despite your bravest attempts at showing just how much you care. Everyone is completely different, everyone has their way of showing care - in fact, everyone expresses each emotion differently - and to be forcibly misunderstood despite constant explanations and pleas to be heard can be completely disheartening. I heavily relate to the message in this poem and I hope that you find someone who has enough patience to learn your definition of care - you deserve to have someone TRY to understand how you feel and who you are, and there's nothing wrong with being different just because someone doesn't feel like you're "enough." You are enough, you are perfect the way you are, and at the very least, know that some random guy has experienced the same treatment and understands where you're coming from. Beautifully written, Li.
