Dagger

Dagger

A Poem by Liderien

You approach me, with dagger drawn from sheath. Placing a quick thrust into my heart  You yank the dagger away only to plunge it again, this time deeper into it’s chamber. You drag the dagger through the bone, tearing away flesh. You reach in and rip out the crux of my reality piece by piece, flinging it to the ground as blood saturates my shirt and body. It gushes freely with little resistance. My face turns pallid as my eyes speak of only the whys. I gaze at you before I drop to my knees and clutch my chest. You don’t even glance my way; you stroll away with my blood on your hands. You dab them clean as you vanish.

Within, I shriek with suffering. My heart is rent, torn, tattered into pieces. I try to pick it up, yet slips through my fingers. The stench of blood of what once was permeates the atmosphere.

With all the vigor I can muster, I try to stay erect, but my efforts deplete as I slowly collapse on the ground in a heap, holding the gap that was once my heart. As the blood flows from the fatal wound the spasms come, weak at first, then incrementally violent as my body draws its last breath.
