A Proud SisterA Poem by Lici
I went a away one summer day,
Not out of your life, but out of your way. You looked at me, and hugged me tight. "I'm proud of you sissy." you said in broad daylight. I shed a tear, and you looked at me, Bidding me good bye, as you handed me something to eat. "Don't forget this," you said as you hugged me again. "I'll write to you while you're in boot camp." And away I went, the Navy calling me. A country to serve, a country to keep free. A year passes by, I come home to visit. "Sissy sissy, guess what!" you exlaimed, and I listened. "I'm joining the Army, I leave next month." I was proud of you, you had grown up. A few months later, the Army called you in. Off to boot camp you went, but not on a moments whim. I never got to tell you how proud I was to your face, For the Navy's calling kept me at bay. I've told you repeatedly, how proud I am of you. But now my chance is coming through. When you arrive at the airport, clad in Army Uniform. I will greet you, your sister in arms. In Navy Uniform I will be too, You in green, and I in blue. You're my sister at arms, my commrade in war. But my sister at heart, and so much more. I love you, and who you've become. I'm proud of you little sister, life's just begun. And by you I stand, as family and friend, But most of all, I'll stand by you until the wars end. You're my commrade, my soldier, my sister, My family, my friend, I cannot ask for better. I salute you, and the life you chose, As you once saluted me, and watched me go. I'll say it once, I'll say it again, I'm proud of you my Army Girl, life's just begun. © 2009 LiciFeatured ReviewReviews
