Crater Woes

Crater Woes

A Poem by Liamesq

As I sit here in this crater hoping these wounds will heal,
I think about my life and death and if this is real.
I trudge towards the light but find I'm lagging behind,
All those young guys shot straight through the head but no...I survived.

I'm crouched down in a shell hole just waiting to die,
And with the loss of blood I find comes a natural high.
It's pumping out my leg, my arm, my chest and my face,
And I'm pretty sure it's way too far to crawl back to base.

I can't be blamed for all the bullets hitting my friends,
Although it is a shame to see them meeting their ends.
I am able to remember all the things that were said,
Among them was 'don't send your troops, they'll all end up dead!'
