As I Sit by the Graveside

As I Sit by the Graveside

A Poem by Shiika
"

Wrote this around 6th grade. Kinda wish I could still write like this; I think my old poems are really good compared to my newer ones. Anyway, this poem came after learning about the early patriots.

"

We respect the patriots, as they respected us.

They gave us their lives, we gave them our trust.

As I walk through this graveyard, I can imagine the past

And recognize the importance of those here that breathed their last.

Today, in this country, we take things for granted;

We seem to forget about the seeds our forefathers planted.

As I continue to look, I see men and women

Who fought so that this country could have a beginning

Not under British rule, or any other country.

They fought so that we people could be free.

One nation, under God, with liberty and pride…

These things I now see as I sit by the graveside.

I really like this one. It has nice flow and I love the rhymes. Plus, it has a very good message. Though just because this one is good doesn't mean that your newer poems aren't. They're just different. :)
