The Lying Thief

The Lying Thief

A Poem by Alexis Ortega

Never thought we’d end up here
Wish I could make you want to stay
Cause losing you is my greatest fear
I didn’t think It’d hurt this way

I know now what it's like without you
All the nights I spent alone
Endless days I couldn’t get through
Hours waiting by the phone

You told me way too many lies
And i'm not sure what's true or not
We both got lost in our own lives
And can’t undo this hopeless knot

You're eyes deceive, they hide the pain
No way to hide you're secret shame
Although I doubt it'd change a thing
I know deep down you feel the same

But what I feel for you is too strong
I can't give in, can't let you go
But then again I know it's wrong
It's over now and we both know

When you're not here I lose my mind
My heart beats fast and never steady
I’ve tried, but can’t leave you behind
So take my heart it’s yours already

I love how you ended this. Last line hits you in the gut. the line "The lonely nights are proof alone" that struck me as a bit odd, just the alone part after the lonely nights. May want to switch it around, My proof alone, the lonely nights or something like that. Idk i'm just throwing ideas out there. I thought it was pretty good.
