Distorted Pain

Distorted Pain

A Poem by Alexa Tarvid

My heart hurts,

And it hurts even worse

Because I can't find the words,

I need to get it out,

It's scratching up my soul and leaving hideous scars,

But I can't find a way to explain it,

This hopeless sorrow,

This drowning desperation,

I need to remember how to stand on my own two feet,

I can no longer depend on your sweet lips for comfort,

Or your touch as a healing presence,

I ask you questions

To bait you,

I wish to stay like this for a little longer,

To remember the feeling with detail,

But your answers bring neither pain

Nor relief,

I wish to move on,

And I believe I am,

But for right now

I'll stay sad a little longer,

And try and find the words to grasp this hurt,

Though things couldn't have ended any better,

I still miss your smell and your sweet goodnight kisses

More and more,

Trying to find the words to describe this hurt,

But all I can think about are the words,

The words that left your sweet lips,

And even though things couldn't have ended any better,

Why is it those words that hurt?

this poem is beautiful. i like how it describes the pain, keeping the reader guessing on the cause, and then uses almost like flashbacks to show what the cause is. and it is still open to interpretation.
