Cover It

Cover It

A Poem by Alexa Tarvid

A tainted life,

Soaked in hurt and alcohol,

Broken glass and empty cabinets,

When will it end?

So many boxes to pack and unpack,

So many fresh starts and bitter endings,

So many mistakes and too much pride,

With a few pills here and there

Things should run better,

More smoothly,

Instead

We are tripping over them,

Trying to keep up with a world

That continues to change,

A bitter routine

Surrounded by tension and disease,

With those lost in the struggle

Trapped in the middle,

So many tears

And not enough warm hands

To wipe them from our cheeks,

Such a tragic story we'll tell,

Fabricating the raw hurt,

The raw betrayal,

Will the porcelain masks

And well made costumes

Cover it?

Cover the blackened smile

And the heavy heart,

I fear not,

We shall be found out,

And all feelings displayed,

For a black like this spreads,

And we can't help but share a weight such as this,

A tainted life.
