Past the Desert MoundsA Poem by Alexa TarvidHer chest moves, Hitting a beat carried by the wind, Those around her Call out to the spirits that surround them, Space and time do not exist,
Her bare feet hit the earth floor With a force that looks as strong as a coyote, But flows like the willows of a land not their own, The sound has no bearing to echo off of, It is merely engulfed by the night,
With a sweeping of her strong arms, She brings her hands to the sky Letting their voices reach higher and higher, Past the desert mounds And the crawling smoke of the fire,
Thump, Thump, Her heart falls in rhythm with her steps Filling all space with such a humble spirit, Stopping time in its tracks For all the stars and the Great Moon Stop to watch, Stop to listen,
Space and time do not exist,
For she will dance for as long as it takes, And they will sing until all voice is lost, And all their people will stop and wait, Stay and watch, Because they have done all they can, It is up to her now, She is their only hope,
Her chest moves, Hitting a beat carried by the wind, Her bare feet hit the earth floor With a force that looks as strong as a coyote, But flows like the willows of a land not their own, Those around her Call out to the spirits that surround them,
Space and time do not exist.
