For Them

For Them

A Poem by Alexa Tarvid
"

This poem is based on the general idea of being separated from someone you care about.

"

So many goodbyes,
So many tears shed
And doors closed,

So many sad endings
And not enough happy beginnings,
As the door is closed,
We tend to only look at the bare space in front of us,
We are lost in the emptiness that once was her,
Him,
Them,

We miss her touch,
His voice,
Their laughter,
The last hug breaks the heart,
That longing feeling as the car pulls out of the driveway,
And even when it's long gone
We find ourselves still waving,
Hoping,
So many goodbyes,

As the days past
We feel the void,
The empty seat,
The empty bed,
Or even the empty classroom,
So many tears shed,

We go through our daily routines
Trying to fill in their absence,
But things just don't seem the same,
We don't feel braver,
We don't feel outgoing
Or friendly,
We find ourselves wishing,
Hoping,
And doors are closed,

And when things start to change,
When the world takes the wheel back,
We grow scared,
We start wishing again,
Hoping,
But whether we will see them again in a few days,
Months,
Years,
Or will have to wait until we meet them in heaven,
They'll always be with us,
Her touch,
His voice,
Their laughter,

Yes,
Things are different,
But nobody said that we have to forget,
Yes,
Things are different,
But we are never alone,
Let those memories go with you
When you walk through your own door,
Because things will always change,
The world,
People,
Us,
So let's be brave,
Outgoing,
Friendly,
For them,

We don't want to disappoint them,
let your memories give you strength,
They want our beginning to be happy,
A new beginning,
When a door is closed
Another is opened,
It's different,
I know,
But lets make them proud,
So lets do it
For them.

Frankly, I don't think this poem is very good, but I wrote it with a few friends and family in mind. It's not the best, but goodbyes seem to be necessity to life. If we let it control the rest of our life, stick ourselves in a sulking hole, then we aren't really doing their memory any justice, are we?

I love this poem, as I read it I kept thinking about all those people who have touched me and I said I would always keep in touch with, yet I haven't. This was a very visual poem for me....you did an excellent job.

This is gorgeous, it truly is. Don't bother doubting yourself. You nearly moved me to tears, because every single point you touched on was very accurate. It also seemed to fit the situtation I am going thorugh perfectly, and I can even tell the many people that read this will feel the same way as I do. So I will say again what a wonderful job you've done. Seriously, keep up the great work !
