It Lingers

It Lingers

A Poem by Alexa Tarvid

The chill,

It hovers,

The light in the room

blinks,

Once,

Twice,

Gone,

The cold,

It lingers,

The breathing slows,

Inhale,

Exhale,

Not yet gone

But dying,

The loneliness,

It suffocates,

The soul fades,

Far,

Farther,

Human

But for how long?

The tears,

They burn,

Tearing slowly at the spirit,

Too many to count,

A burning pain,

A burning suffocation,

The mind,

It unwinds,

Sanity folds in on itself,

The walls move in,

Closer

And closer,

Cold against the skin,

Against the heart.

The chill,

It lingers,

The soul fades,

Tearing slowly at the spirit,

Sanity folds in on itself,

A lingering pain,

A beloved suffocation,

What a horrible feeling

loneliness brings,

What a cold room

It locks us in,

So terribly cold,

Not yet gone,

But dying...

Cold against the skin,

Cold against the heart.

Beautifully done. I like the pacing and punctuation. Your descriptions are flawless. The emotions evoked stunning.
