Why Did You Change?

Why Did You Change?

A Poem by Lexi =]
"

About an old friend

"

Member when we were friends

When we depended on each other
Trusted each other
Why did you ruin it?
Why did you change?
Why did I start seeing scars on your arms?
Why did I see suicide notes?
The scars they hurt me.
They weren’t but you were my friend
I didn’t want you to hurt yourself
When I tried to help
You pushed me away
Now look what happened
Everyone friend you ever had has broken away from you
Why didn’t you listen to me?

This one reached in and gave a familiar punch in the gut. I have dealt with this issue very, very close to me. As close as can get without being me, but an extension of myself. I'm happy to say those days are gone, and she is doing so well now. It hurts like cannot be described seeing someone you love so much destroying themselves... Never turn away, though. Even if they are pushing you away. Sometimes, we have to endure, and stand on the sidelines waiting for the flash of a moment that becomes an opportunity to help catch the one we think so much of. Help is not always easy to give or to ask for. Suicide is a real threat, and very scary. Once committed, there is no turning back. Is not one you love and care so much for worthy of your every effort to try and thwart their misunderstanding of what they really want? Usually all that is wanted is for the pain they can no longer bare to go away. A change. Not death. Most of the ones who really want to never give a clue that are going to do it. It is known once it is done. And only then. But even then, there are signs. That's a different story.
This is an honest outpouring of your feelings. Very well expressed.
