A sneaky peak.A Story by Alexia GrayThis is a small preview of my new story.
He stood alone by the fire, staring into the crackling world of flames that shot this way and that, never certain of which direction to head in. Slowly and not overly willingly, I approached, clutching the glass of red wine for the comfort I'd need for such a confrontation.
"I must speak with you." I spoke lowly once close enough though he never flinched: his eyes like midnight pools as the flames flickered in their reflection. "Doesn't everyone?" He smiled smugly, his gaze flitting around the room before settling on myself. "Not everyone knows who or what you are." I protested. "And you do?" I nodded firmly, reminding myself not to let him govern the way I behaved around him. I was my own person not a doll he could shape to say, believe or act how he wanted. "Well go on then or would you prefer to tell the whole room? I'm certain they would be most enthralled with what you have to say." He turned to face the assembly room and raised his arms to begin drawing attention. I grabbed his arm and leaned closer. "I doubt neither of us would like that as much you believe." "You forget, my little imp, that my reputation is tattered as it is. I wouldn't have thought your accusation could taint it any further." His face was but inches from my own, his expression was one of seriousness and I noticed the small hairs on his jawline, the dark shading of his irises, the pastel pink of his lips. "Say it. Tell me what I am."
