You Don’t MatterA Poem by Askew
I’m laughing because you think you hold a place in my heart
You think you matter to me That I’ll cry if you leave What you don’t realize is that I have no more room in my heart There are no vacancies for a new love And when I tell you this You proceed to ask me why I still come to you when you call And you push for an answer when I refuse to respond The truth is You’re convenient You don’t matter But you’re easy You’re replaceable And only good for now When I’m bored and lonely and crave blind affection You’re there with arms open When I have the desire to shed my clothes and share someone’s bed You’re there naked under the sheets When I’m hungry and need to actually fuel my body You’re there cooking for me But you don’t matter I will forget about you when you’ve overstayed your welcome in my life And I will feel no regrets Because my intentions have always been laid bare I never claimed to need you If you’re hurt then it is your own fault For not believing me when I told you I don’t want you as a long term character in my life © 2021 AskewReviews
