Never AloneA Poem by Askew
I'm not alone,
And I will never be alone. On my best days And on my worst, I am never alone. Even in an empty room I am not alone. I need to be alone. I crave the kind of solitude That I've gone three years without. As long as he is out there, As long as he still relishes his freedom, I am forever robbed of "alone." This is a first world country, One that prides itself On being fair and just. Riddle me this: Where is my justice? I am afraid! Afraid of what he did to me. Afraid of what he turned me into. Afraid that I may see him again. I don't know how to love And I sabotage what love I'm given. I don't understand how it works. "No" means nothing anymore, It's meaning was stolen by blood. Leave me alone.
