A snippet story about the inner child lost within each and every one of us

The inner child

Imperfect humans living in an even more imperfect society. We are told when we hit a certain age that it is time to lose our childishness; that it is time to grow up, to focus and work, and to forget about play. Now, I invite you to close your eyes for a moment and think about your childhood self. Are they happy? Hurting? Scared? What conditions are affecting their life; what do they need the most?

Often we hear people speaking of their inner child; speaking of trying to find and heal that little girl or boy within themselves. However, we know there is not actually a “child” inside of us still as we grow old; at least not literally. For in truth, this “inner child” is really just a piece of ourselves buried within our subconscious; it is that playful, imaginative, innocent, and always dreaming fragmented virtue of ourselves that was ripped away from us the moment we became old enough for responsibility to be thrown at us.

That playful and imaginative sense of innocence that overflows with awe and wonder for great things; this is not a “childish” quality, but a human one. Never lose that beautiful and sweet little one who remains in your heart and soul; care for and nourish them as you continue to grow and reflect on memories of a once younger and innocent you. And most importantly, keep dreaming as they did.
