Mockingbirds

Mockingbirds

A Poem by Catherine Drake

My journey I thought long forgotten

I broke into a trot

Along these blessed woods

A song was sang by the

birds above me

Luring me, fooling me

To endure a darker trek

Something I have so fondly seen, yet

Their melody was mocking me

Luring me, fooling me

Their trap, I had known Too well

As a forest of the mind remains

My legs were the roots

The canopy, my brain

My words were like the now empty lake

Full of life

Now drowned

With hate

Oh, Just a little too late

Oh,  the woods unto my body told

I shall not pass

I will not go

It is here i stand

Nothing stops me

From knowing that

I know!

I may never leave these blessed woods

But in the tree kingdom

My body leads

I will be king
