Voices in the Dark

Voices in the Dark

A Poem by Lethu
"

This was merely a figment of my imagination..

"

In a corner I sit still beset by fear,

my silence was loud enough for the deaf to

hear, and visible for the blind to see clear

"Come now my dear"

In a sotto voce voices appeared

and pierced my psyche like a sharp spear

"Do not despair"

"Who is it that is here?

I beseech you do as you wish but my soul

you shall spare"

My cries seemed to be in vain

I could feel my skull start to tear,

echoes of ill will surrounded me as its presence

drew nearer

My pride hath been sheared

My face flows with tears

and my freedom was cut off with painful

shears

"You pathetic weakling"

The voices said is a sneer...

Oh my god, your assonance and enjambment are killer. I've rarely seen it used to such a breathtaking, delightful effect in other works. You've got some serious skill there!

LE-TOO is how my name is pronounced. I had to start off with that because I know it's a little hard on the tongue for some. POET? Or somebody who just rhymes? Writing verses in well structured lines.. more..
