WORDS

WORDS

A Poem by Secret Lullaby

'" Sticks and stones may brake my bones but words will never hurt me''

Can some please tell me who came up with that s**t???

word beat,

They cut,

They cause damage,

They cause pain

And they leave eternal scars

Words can be the begining......of the end

Very well put. You speak with wisdom and a justified anger in this one. The last line is perfect. Great!

I've been physically hurt. I've been punched in the eye, had my head repeatedly slammed into a mailbox, among other things. But they're nothing compared to the pain that words have brought me. Even as I write this, the cruel words others have thrown at me force their way into my mind, churn my stomach, make my heart clench like a fist. And I agree with Lina Grey when she says they are usually spoken by people who are weak or ignorant. The pain, though, is still there, and they'll destroy you if you let them. My personal motto is to forgive, take the merciless abuse they rub in your face, and become a better person for it (better than they will probably ever be). But this poem rings true about the pain and suffering that words can cause... and the scars that just don't seem to fade.

Not to disagree, but words won't ever hurt you.......unless you let them get to you. Which, most words should be taken for meaning, because most words aren't said for nothing. Words hurt when they are said by weak, obnoxious cowards, who, for some unkown but unpreventable reason, are important to us. In the society, everyone's opinion matters and should be valued for what it is. It's true that words can cause one pain and eternal damage, but that's only in context. The words themselves aren't painful, it's the meaning behind them that hurts. The saying is suposed to teach people to not worry about what everyone thinks, because people who stoop to levels so low that they verbally insult or abuse others are not people who should matter. Of course, things are never that simple, and conflicts are never that shallow. It's true that words are often more painful that physical damage, but being able to overcome such insults make us stronger. I'm sure opinion is very different from most people's, but it's not in ignorance. I grew up being verbally abused and sometimes the pain is overwhelming. Your message holds true, and the scars words leave can never fade. Thank you.

So true... and the worst part is that people who believe it just get down on themselves for feeling they shouldn't let the words hurt. But they do.
