Nature's Medicine

Nature's Medicine

A Poem by LeslieNoel

The smell of amber and spices
Rises up
From the sun kissed
And heat bathed ground
Warm air drifts in currents
Around the bench and
Through its worn slats
I've ridden my bike here
To discover nature's hidden world
The bench creaks beneath my weight
As I strain to see everything
Dragonflies flit above
The water's surface
Gently skirting the edge
With its light of a feather extremities
Ripples billow out in circular fashion
Below the surface
A whole new world
Filled with gliding fish
And paddling turtles
This serene beauty
Fills my soul like no other
And acts like a bomb of protection
Sprinkling fairy dust wherever it is needed
It fills the cracks
Gaps the bridges
In my soul
Whose edges have frayed and rotted away
From everyday grief and loss
I take my medicine daily
With a smile and a song
For I know that once I swallow it
Soak it up
My mind and spirit will once again be whole
